Dear Sir/Madam

AVIAN INFLUENZA (AI) REGIONALISATION ARRANGEMENT WITH NEW ZEALAND

We refer to our circular dated 6 Dec 2024, where a temporary restriction on the import of poultry and poultry products from New Zealand was imposed due to an outbreak of Highly Pathogenicity Avian Influenza (HPAI).

2         We wish to update that SFA and NParks/AVS have worked with New Zealand on a regionalisation arrangement for HPAI, such that import restrictions are scoped to the control area(s) established around the infected premises in New Zealand. All poultry and poultry products derived from birds from areas outside the control area(s) will now be accepted for import, regardless of the slaughter date.

3         In order to facilitate the clearance of permits for poultry and poultry products, we would require the following additional attestations to be included in the veterinary health certificate accompany the import of poultry and poultry products:

a) The product (meat/shell eggs/egg products) was not derived from flocks within a HPAI animal disease control area.

b) The product (meat/shell eggs/egg products) was derived from clinically healthy flocks.

c) The broiler flocks/commercial shell egg (layer) flocks have not been in contact with risk materials (from farm(s) within a controlled area) within the 28 days prior to egg collection/slaughter.

4    Please contact SFA should you have any enquiries on the import of poultry and poultry products.
