What type of food-health products are regulated by SFA?
Generally speaking, products regulated by SFA are:
- non-medicinal in nature
- part of or supplementary to daily diets
- consumed without a defined dosage
- in a form typical of food
Bee pollen, essence of chicken, and herbal jelly are examples of products that are regulated by SFA.
Conversely, products that are medicinal in nature, such as Western medicines and Chinese proprietary medicines, are regulated by the Health Sciences Authority (HSA).
How do I determine if my products are regulated by SFA?
You can use the Classification Tree for Products in the Food-Health Product Interface to determine if your product is regulated by SFA.
If you are unsure whether your products are regulated by SFA, you can contact SFA via the SFA Online Feedback Form and provide a soft copy of the complete proposed packaging label with the following information:
1. Intended function of the product
2. Complete statement of ingredients
3. Dosing instructions, restrictions, or recommended intake
