Singapore Sustainability Scholarship

SFA offers scholarships under the Singapore Sustainability Scholarship (SSS) umbrella. The scholarships are offered at the undergraduate, postgraduate and diploma level.

We are looking for game-changers who are passionate in developing solutions and staying ahead of the curve to ensure a sustainable supply of safe food both now and in the future. Learn more about the impact you’ll make on Singapore’s food future with SFA.

Which Programme is for You?

SFA welcomes individuals interested in food-related science and technology disciplines to apply for our scholarship programmes. Scholars will be given the opportunity to work and collaborate across different roles and functions, contributing to the nation’s food safety as you are groomed for leadership and key roles in Singapore’s food ecosystem.

Undergraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is jointly offered by SFA together with the two agencies under the Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment (MSE) – the National Environment Agency (NEA) and PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency. Through this scholarship, SFA seeks to groom and nurture young talents who are keen to develop a career to strengthen environmental resilience and food and water security for Singapore.

There are two application cycles offered annually by SFA.

This scholarship is suitable for applicants interested to pursue or are currently pursuing an undergraduate degree in a local or overseas university in relevant disciplines such as Agricultural Sciences, Aquacultural Sciences, Biological Sciences/ Life Sciences, Chemistry, Food Science and Food Technology, Microbiology, Veterinary Sciences or other related disciplines.

 

Eligibility, Terms and Conditions

Tenable for

  • Undergraduate studies at local/ overseas universities

Discipline of study applicable for SFA

  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Aquacultural Sciences

  • Biological Sciences/ Life Sciences

  • Chemistry

  • Food Science and Technology

  • Microbiology

  • Veterinary Science

  • Other Related Disciplines

Eligibility

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore Citizenship

  • Applicants presenting ‘A’ Levels, International Baccalaureate, Polytechnic Diploma or equivalent

  • Applicants for mid-term scholarship should have attained at least 1 semester of academic results

Value of award

Full-term scholarship

  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees

  • Maintenance allowance

  • Pre-studies allowance (One-time)

  • Return economy class airfare (For overseas scholarship)

Mid-term scholarship

  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees (Including backpayment of tuition fees and other compulsory fees incurred prior to award)

  • Monthly maintenance allowance (From point of award)

  • One-way economy class airfare from country of study (For overseas scholarship)

Bond

  • Local: 4 years

  • Overseas: 6 years

  • Overseas in non-English speaking countries: 5 years [1]

There are 2 application windows for the Undergraduate Scholarship, after the release of the GCE ‘A’ Level results in Singapore, and in the third quarter of the calendar year.

Shortlisted applicants will be contacted before end-April and end-September, based on the timing of their application.

Postgraduate Scholarship

This scholarship is suitable for applicants interested to pursue or currently pursuing a Master’s Degree/ PhD at a local or overseas university in relevant disciplines. Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in food-related science and technology disciplines who are interested to pursue postgraduate studies in data science, engineering, or bioinformatics are also welcome to apply.

Discipline of study applicable for SFA

  • Agricultural Sciences

  • Aquacultural Sciences

  • Biological Sciences/ Life Sciences

  • Chemistry

  • Food Science and Technology

  • Microbiology

  • Toxicology

  • Veterinary Science

  • Other related disciplines

Eligibility

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore Citizenship

  • Strong academic results for first degree in relevant disciplines

  • Have applied/ be applying for a Master’s/ PhD programme at a local/ overseas university

  • Applicants for mid-term scholarship should have attained at least 1 semester of academic results

Value of award

Full-term scholarship

  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees

  • Maintenance allowance

  • Pre-studies allowance (One-time)

  • Return economy class airfare (For overseas scholarship)

Mid-term scholarship

This scholarship is suitable for applicants interested to pursue or currently pursuing a diploma in Food Science or Biotechnology at a local Polytechnic. Students will be required to complete a 6-week internship with SFA as part of the application process.

  • Diploma studies at local polytechnic

Discipline of study applicable for SFA

  • Biotechnology

  • Food Science and Technology

Eligibility

  • Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents intending to take up Singapore Citizenship

  • Students pursuing a full-time diploma course in a relevant field of study at a local polytechnic

  • Have attained at least 1 semester of academic results

Value of award

  • Tuition fees and other compulsory fees in relation to the diploma course
  • Annual allowance during duration of diploma course

Bond

  • 2 years
