SL Foods Pte Ltd and its Director fined $12,000 each for failure to arrange for SFA inspections and selling imported food consignment prior to inspection

              SL Foods Pte Ltd, a licensed food importer, was fined $12,000 by the Court today for failure to arrange for inspection, examination and certification by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), as well as for selling an imported consignment of ginseng chicken stew prior to inspections. Its Director, Jin Hyun Wook, was also fined $12,000 for failing to prevent the offence from being committed. 

    2       SL Foods Pte Ltd had imported about 768 kg of ginseng chicken stew from Korea in July 2022. The company and its director failed to arrange for SFA to inspect, examine and certify the consignment and had proceeded to sell the products.

    3       In Singapore, upon import of meat products, importers must arrange for these products to be inspected, examined and certified by an authorised examiner before it is sold, distributed or exported. Meat products which are found to be unfit for human consumption will be seized and disposed.

    4       Offenders who fail to arrange for their meat consignments to be inspected, examined and certified by an authorised examiner before sale or distribution are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $10,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months or to both. Offenders who had sold their meat consignments which had not been inspected are liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $50,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 2 years or to both and, in the case of a second or subsequent conviction, to a fine not exceeding $100,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 years, or to both.
