Applying for a Farm Licence / Fish Culture Farm Licence
Follow the steps below to apply. Licences are valid for 1 year.
Step 1: Ensure you are eligible

Step 4: SFA reviews your proposal
Step 5: Set up your farm
Step 6: Prepare your licence application
Step 7: Submit your application and the supporting documents
Step 8: SFA reviews your licence application
Step 9: Receive approval and pay the licence fees
What other licences/registrations might I need?
Land-based farms
You may require additional registrations/licences from SFA depending on the activities on your farm.
For example, farm licensees who want to retail food (i.e. sell processed or cooked food to the public) must apply for a food retail licence. For details, see Businesses that Need Licence / Permit for Food Retail.
Likewise, farm licensees who want to process their farm produce into food products (e.g. fillets, salads), must apply for a Licence to Operate a Food Processing Establishment. For details, see Businesses that Need Licence / Registration for Food Manufacturing & Storage.
Fish culture farms
After obtaining your Fish Culture Farm Licence, you should:
- Register your personnel
All individuals employed or engaged in any activity on a fish culture farm must be registered with SFA. For details, see Registering Personnel on Fish Culture Farms. - Obtain licences for your fishing vessels
All fishing vessels servicing your fish culture farm must be licensed. For details, see Apply for a Fishing Vessel Licence for Servicing of Fish Culture Farm.

Registering Personnel on Fish Culture Farms
All individuals employed or engaged in any activity on a fish culture farm must be registered with SFA.
The registration is valid as long as the registered person is still employed or engaged in any activity on a Licensed Fish Culture Farm.
Step 1: Ensure you are eligible

Step 4: SFA reviews your application
Step 5: Receive approval
After registering your personnel
When there are changes to your registration (e.g. contact details), you must update SFA in writing within 30 days.
Fishing Vessel Licence for Servicing the Fish Culture Farm

Applying for a Fishing Vessel Licence for Servicing the Fish Culture Farm
All fishing vessels servicing the fish culture farm must be licensed. The licence is renewable annually.
Step 1: Ensure you are eligible
Step 2: Prepare to apply
Step 3: Submit your application
Step 4: SFA reviews your application
Step 5: Prepare your vessel for pre-licensing inspection
Step 6: Pre-licensing inspection by SFA
Step 7: Receive approval and pay the licence fees
After obtaining your Fishing Vessel Licence
