In the face of increasing global food safety risks and more volatile food supply chains, SFA’s mission to ensure and secure a supply of safe food for Singapore is all the more important.
The Food Safety and Security Bill (FSSB) that was recently passed in Parliament on 8 January 2025 allows us to be prepared for these developments.
Other than consolidating and refreshing existing food-related legislation, the FSSB also: i) updates Singapore’s food safety regime to better protect consumers, support industry development and prepare for emerging trends; and ii) strengthens our food supply resilience.
The passing of the Bill follows extensive consultations with industry stakeholders since August 2023, and public consultations held in phases from March to September 2024. The Government will further consult the industry before imposing any new requirements when implementing the FSSB. More details on the implementation will be shared progressively.
