When many of us think of Singapore, abundant farms don’t immediately spring to mind. That’s understandably so, considering we are an urban metropolis. Yet, dotted around our city are countless of farms that produce a myriad of fresh leafy vegetables, fish and eggs that feed our nation.
Even though space is a luxury in land-scarce Singapore, it has not stopped our local farmers from using alternative places such as HDB carpark rooftops, and even the deep sea to grow food. Many local farms are also tapping into technology and employing sustainable farming practices to ramp up production and improve the quality of produce.
Even though the world is increasingly threatened by climate change, we can count on our homegrown agricultural businesses to find innovative ways to grow our local food supply and help us become more self-sufficient as a nation.
