SFA operates Jurong Fishery Port and provides these services to foreign and local fishing vessels:
- bunkering
- discharging
- transshipment of fish
- marketing and fishing harbour activities
- wholesale market for fish
Non-regulatory function of ports
The maintenance of cleanliness and sanitation of the port and its wholesale market have been outsourced to a managing agent since 1 November 2005. The current managing agent at the port is M/s STIE Pte Ltd.
Jurong Fishery Port
Jurong Fishery Port (JFP), an international port for foreign fishing vessels to land their fish catch, started operations in 1969. Located at Fishery Port Road, it has a land area of 5.1 hectares.
Facilities
JFP serves as a docking and bunkering base for foreign fishing vessels operating in the Indian and Pacific Ocean. It is also a marketing and distribution centre for fresh fish.
These facilities can also be found at JFP:
- a 400-metre long wharf
- a wholesale fish market
- a computerised water batching system that dispenses drinking water to vessels berthed there
- shops
- ice-crusher stalls
- canteens
- fish merchants’ office units
Supply of Fish
In 2020, approximately 30% of Singapore’s seafood imports are handled at JFP. The main seafood item sold at JFP is chilled fish. Seafood sold at JFP are imported from:
- Indonesia via sea route
- Malaysia and Thailand via land route
- Sources such as Australia, Bangladesh, China, India, Myanmar, Taiwan and Vietnam via air route
Frozen tuna is also transshipped through JFP.
Marketing & Wholesale Activities
JFP has a 9,000m2 wholesale fish market which houses 110 market lots. There are about 103 fish merchants that conduct wholesale fish business at JFP. About 1,500 fish retailers, fish processors and institutional buyers come to this market daily to buy fish.
